Resume

Carolyn Young Long is a professional artist with a BFA in Art Education from Virginia  Commonwealth University (1974)  and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Painting and Drawing, with minors in computer art and art education.  She has studied at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Hand  Work Shop and with various professional artists, including John Morgan, Laura Pharis, Polly Dixon, Joan Elliott, Don Crow, Sally Bowring, and Michael Drought.

WORKSHOPS include the Nimrod Creative Workshops.  Carolyn is a  recipient of numerous grant awards from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and a grant from Partners in the Arts/National Endowment for the Arts.

EXHIBITIONS include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA., The Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA., The Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Newport News, VA., The Edward Hopper House Art Center, Nyack, N.Y., Woodenhead Gallery, Key West, FLA., The Shockoe Bottom Arts Center, Richmond, VA., and numerous awards for painting and drawing in outdoor juried shows. Her work can be found in the collections of Alan Newman Enterprises, MCV Hospitals, Peter Blair, Inc., Westminster-Canterbury and numerous private collections.

Carolyn is a member in good standing of the Oil Pastel Association/United Pastelists of America, The Richmond Woman's Caucus for Art, the National Woman's Caucus for Art, The Shockoe Bottom Art Center, The National Art Education Association and the Virginia Art Education Association.

As an Artist/Teacher, she was chosen as Teacher of the Year at Goochland Elementary School where she has taught for twelve years.  Carolyn was recently published in School Arts magazine and Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 2000.   Carolyn also teaches advanced art classes at Goochland High School.

Carolyn welcomes serious drawing and painting students to her studio and may be contacted via email  (gilky@msn.com) or snail mail for further information.  For those younger students who wish to learn a variety of media, Carolyn is proficient in pottery, both hand and wheel thrown, sculpture, and, of course,  drawing, painting,  and mixed media.  In addition, her art students are the recipients of many awards on a local, regional, and state level.

PRICING and CLASS OPPORTUNITIES

In general my prices are as follows:

Full sheet of paper, unframed, oil pastel, 22"x30"  ---$600-$800.00
one half sheet of paper, unframed, oil pastel 15"x22" ---$200-$350.00
one quarter sheet of paper, unframed, oil pastel, 11"x15" ---$100-$150.00
smaller sheets, priced accordingly, unframed, oil pastel, ---$20-$75.00
Oil Paintings, unframed, stretched cotton canvas --
prices range widely from $100.00 (approximately 8"x10" ) to $500, 1000,  and up, 22"x30" and larger.
Murals are  individually priced.
